Delvaux, the oldest fine leather luxury house, showcases Le Brillant at The Hotel & The Restaurant by Pierre Balthazar.
Delvaux is “a divinely singular label”
Such is the high praise one grande dame of fashion bestowed on the prestigious family-owned company established in 1829 by Charles Delvaux in Brussels. Internationally recognised, the House of Delvaux has earned its reputation by remaining true to its values and for its savoir-faire and uncompromising craftsmanship, as well as for the supreme quality of its creations.
Born in 1958 in Brussels, Le Brillant is Delvaux’s most celebrated and cherished bag, a true icon for modern times
A masterpiece of desire, technical engineering and precision, Le Brillant is made out of 64 different pieces of leather and gold-plated brass hardware. The striking buckle is a true eye-catcher. It never takes itself too seriously and loves to change every season. Its radical proportions make it a contemporary classic.
‘The Moods of Brillant’
At the 1958 Brussels World Fair, Delvaux created a stir with the launch of a new handbag: Le Brillant. Created by designer Paule Goethals, this design quickly developed into one of the showpieces of the various Delvaux collections. Over the years it has been produced in a range of materials (calf, ostrich, porosus crocodile, alligator etc.) and in different structures, formats and colours.
Gault Millau, thank you so much for selecting The Hotel Brussels as Recommended Hotel 2013!
Fashion Book 3: Chanel – The Vocabulary of Style
Fashion Book 3
Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel (1883-1971) was undoubtedly the most influential fashion designer of the 20th century. Her clothes and accessories have remained perennially chic, and her legendary fashion house continues to exert a powerful sway over today’s designers. Jérôme Gautier tells the story of Chanel’s iconic style through hundreds of images, many taken by the leading lights of fashion photography, including Richard Avedon, Gilles Bensimon, Patrick Demarchelier, Horst P. Horst, Annie Leibovitz, Man Ray, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, and Ellen von Unwerth. This innovative book pairs classic and contemporary photographs, placing fashion plates from Chanel’s time alongside those by the house’s designer-in-chief, Karl Lagerfeld. For instance, Cecil Beaton‘s portrait of Chanel appears alongside Lagerfeld’s image of Cate Blanchett emulating her, and a classic plate by Henry Clarke flanks an arresting shot by Juergen Teller.
Through these dazzling photographs, Chanel: The Vocabulary of Style identifies key elements that have defined Chanel’s style for generations, such as jersey and tweed, formerly considered menswear fabrics, and the little black dress, which transformed a hue previously reserved for mourning into a statement of elegance. Pearls were her staple, and she often embellished outfits with her signature camellia. Eleven chapters compare the original forms of these enduring trademarks with their later expressions over the years and to the present day, letting the vocabulary of Chanel’s style speak for itself.
