Culinaria: The Belgium Effect
This year, Culinaria has been themed: The Belgium Effect.
Culinaria’s 2015 edition is a celebration of Belgium.

New rooms ask for new amenities: The Hotel has chosen for bath products from C.O. Bigelow: the oldest apothecary in America founded in 1838 in New York’s Greenwich Village.
We just love this brand as well as their website where they present C.O. Bigelow’s history through a timeline featuring US Presidents. The Hotel is the only hotel in Europe that offers C.O. Bigelow bath products to guests.
To try these great products you can either book a new room at The Hotel… or just answer a simple question (by clicking on ‘leave a reply’ below this article):
Why should you win an XL set of C.O. Bigelow Bath Products?
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” – Coco Chanel
The executive lounge at The Hotel is called the Panorama Lounge and is situated on the 24th floor offering stunning views of Brussels and a Fashion Library for a touch of sky-high glamour. The ideal location for a late-night cocktail with friends or colleagues, or to
sit back and relax with one of the more than 100 fashion books of the most fashionable brands: Hermès, Dior, Christian Louboutin, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, …
The Hotel shares Boulevard de Waterloo with nearly all of the top international luxury lifestyle brands and that shows inside & out!
The crew of TV Brussel visited the hotel, to spot the differences between one of the old rooms and the first new room that recently has been unveiled.

First new room at The Hotel, Brussels – inspirational, elegant and innovative
Today the first new guest room of The Hotel was unveiled during a press conference. This room provides an exciting first glimpse into the spectacular, full-scale renovation to come.
The stylish, elegant room features the ideal mix of comfort and technology.
The most striking feature of the new room is the revolutionary layout. Gone are the obligatory desk, corner armchair, curtains, and traditional floor and table lamps…. A leather sofa runs across the entire width of the room, accented with a practical oval-shaped table. The space has been optimized to provide the visitor with maximum utility, whether it’s to work, relax or simply enjoy a great view of Brussels. Traditional curtains have been replaced with sliding semi-transparent panels that can filter in light. The room can be electrically darkened. Another striking detail is that the bathroom is also part of the open-plan space. This contributes to the overall feeling of spaciousness, but also allows the visitor to admire the fantastic views, even from the shower!
For the tech savvy, modern, cosmopolitan guest Technology has become increasingly important to the modern business traveler. At The Hotel, guests can use the MediahubTM to connect their electronic devices (smart phone, tablet PC, digital camera, video camera, iPod, iPhone, game console, etcetera) to their in-room television, providing instant access to their own music, videos photos and games directly through the TV, which acts as their own personal entertainment centre. Smartphones and tablet PCs equipped with stereo bluetooth can stream audio wirelessly through the TV.
The first new rooms will be ready to welcome guests in April 2012, with more to follow by September 2012. All 424 rooms will be ready by spring 2013.
This Sunday morning 20th of February between 8 and 11AM the letters of The Hotel were successfully put on the top of the roof by a helicopter on both sides of the hotel. Normally the placement of the letters on The Hotel Brussels was foreseen a week earlier but unfortunetaly due to bad weather the helicopter operation had to be postponed. Luckily today permission was granted to fly above the Brussels airspace!
Each letter is approximately 4 meters high and weighs 200 kilogram: in total good for 1200 kilogram of letters. As you can imaginate, it really was a spectacular event that you don’t see every day in Brussels. Watch the video of this impressive operation:
Today Pandox AB took over the management of the former Brussels Hilton. It was acquired in September 2010. Pandox AB, a Swedish hotel group, has a strong vision for the future: The Hotel will be positioned in the premium segment of the Brussels Hotel Market. It should meet the needs of the international business traveler.
New name To accomplish this the hotel will undergo extensive renovation in combination with a new and modern organization. The takeover is accompanied by a name change. The new name refers to the hotel’s current position on the Brussels market: one of the largest and best known centrally located hotels in Brussels, and a landmark for the city.
Extensive renovation The renovation of the façade is already under way and is expected to take about a year. All rooms, bathrooms and hotel corridors will be completely renovated from the summer of 2011 to the end of 2012. The entranche, hall, reception, bar and restaurant on the ground floor will be modernised from the summer of 2011 to the beginning of 2012. The ballroom on the first floor and the conference rooms on the 25th, 26th and 26th floor are to be renovated from the end of 2011 to the summer of 2012. The technical installations will also
be renovated, and a new and dynamic catering offer will be introduced.
